BIODIVERSITY IMPACT TOOL
The following biodiversity impact tool can be used to assess how your business’s sourcing of cocoa beans affects nature. The tool estimates biodiversity lost as a result of countries average agricultural yield per ha, the land area needed for the production of the commodity, the intensity of land use and the relative importance of biodiversity in the sourcing country. It is based on the Biodiversity Impact Metric by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.
You can estimate your recent impact by filling the baseline impact form, which considers data of 2022. By filling the what-if simulation, you can also compare how your impact may change in the future: e.g. by changing the sourcing country, the amount to be purchased or the land use intensity. It also takes into account expected changes in future yields.
